Tension/compression load cells
With our tension/compression load cells, we offer versatile measuring sensors that can be used for different applications in industry and are available for immediate delivery. The S-shaped tension/compression load cells, for example, are characterized by their accuracy and reliability and are therefore extremely popular with our customers.
How does a tension/compression load cell work?
Tension/compression load cells, like all other modern load cells, are essentially transducers that convert force or weight into an electrical signal using strain gauges. When a load is applied, the main body of the load cell deforms slightly. The strain gauges, which are rigidly attached to the load cell body, also deform in the same way, changing their electrical resistance. This produces a voltage signal that is proportional to the initial force or weight.

Typical applications for tension/compression load cells
Tension/compression load cells are used alongside many other types of load cells in various industrial fields. They are able to measure tension and compression forces. The possible tension or compression forces and associated maximum rated loads depend on the model of tension/compression load cell used.
These are often used for hanging container weighing and for a variety of lifting devices.
The octogon tension/compression load cells have been specially produced to deliver long-term stable results, as each tension force sensor is made of stainless steel and comes with all common approvals, such as OIML, NTEP, ATEX and FM.
Suitable for:
- tank and silo scales
- material testing machines
- crane scales and hanging load carriers
