Bending beam load cells

Bending beam load cells are one of the most commonly used types of load cells. The variety of variants and the accessories available for our sensors make this load cell series ideal for industry with its wide range of possible applications. The hermetically sealed welded bellows with protection class IP68 allows use even under harsh operating conditions.

Bending beam load cells of the highest quality

The bending beam load cells are made of nickel-plated, alloyed stainless steel or stainless steel and are characterized by high accuracy, linearity and high stability. Our bending beam load cells are also available with corresponding weighing modules. Our technical sales staff will be happy to provide you with further information.

How does a bending beam load cell work?

A bending beam load cell is a strain gauge force sensor. This type of load cell is one of the most commonly used strain gauge load cells and has proven itself millions of times over. The most important component of the bending beam load cell is the spring body and the strain gauge (DMS) firmly connected to it. This is a metal rod whose shape changes when force is applied. If this force is removed, the spring body moves back to its original shape. This change is registered by a strain gauge fitted in the load cell and converted into an electrical signal. Bending beam load cells are calibrated in weight units of grams, kilograms or tons.

Application of the bending beam load cell

The bending beam load cell can be used for a wide variety of scales depending on the type or direction of installation. They can be found in dosing scales, overhead conveyor scales, belt scales or even platform scales. For the latter application, more than one load cell is often used. The individual load cells are then connected in parallel. Bending beam load cells are considered to be very robust and are therefore ideally suited for use in the industrial sector.

Technical Details

Basically, the bending rod load cell is calibrated for output current (impedance trimmed). This makes it easy to connect several bending rod load cells in parallel without having to adjust the load cells (signal adjustment). In order to install a load cell correctly, an installation aid is often useful. These installation aids are prefabricated metal parts into which the bending rod load cell is installed. There are installation aids for hanging scales, for platform scales and much more. Bending rod load cells are available in different nominal loads. Before installing a load cell, you should always check whether the corresponding scale is subject to calibration. If this is the case, the load cell must also be capable of being calibrated. Load cells are available in various protection classes, whereby IP 68 (protection against the ingress of dust and protection against water when submerged) should be met, especially in the industrial sector, in order to ensure that the bending rod load cell functions permanently.
