Platform load cells

Our platform load cells - also called single point load cells - are available for nominal loads from 3 kg and are characterized by their high accuracy and reliability. Platform load cells (single point load cells) are generally used for platforms with only one load cell and a small nominal load. They are corner load compensated, which means that even if the platform is only loaded at one corner, the measurement result is optimal.

Application areas of platform load cells

Typical areas of application include shop scales, sales scales, dynamic scales (bulk goods), industrial table and floor scales or mobile weighing systems. When using platform load cells in very harsh environments, you can rely on our stainless steel version. This offers you unique moisture protection up to protection class IP69k and at the same time has a very high level of accuracy.

Functions of platform load cells or single point load cells

Platform load cells are, as the name suggests, particularly suitable for use in platform scales. The properties of a load cell are determined by the so-called spring body. This spring body is made of metal and is deformed under the influence of compressive force. The process of deformation and the return of the spring body to its original shape after the load is removed is recorded by a strain gauge and converted into an electrical signal. Platform load cells, like most other load cells, are calibrated in grams, kilograms or tons.

Applications of Single Point Load Cells

Platform load cells are found in weighing systems for small to medium loads in the range of up to 1 ton. Platform load cells are used in platform scales, belt carts, filling scales or dosing scales. They can also be used to measure overload in elevators or to measure contact pressure.

Technical Details

Like most load cells, platform load cells meet the high requirements of the industry in terms of robustness. This is why load cells are usually offered with protection classes from IP 65. In terms of construction, platform load cells are actually double bending beams. Platform load cells have the advantage over other load cells that they are optimized and calibrated for corner loads. This means that the platform load cell works very precisely even if the load on a platform is only on one corner. The data sheet contains all the information you need to design a weighing device with platform load cells. This includes the nominal load, the minimum division value for calculating the maximum tare weight and the limit load. With a platform load cell you can construct a platform scale very quickly. You actually only need the platform load cell and two metal plates to which the load cell is attached. In most cases, weighing devices are subject to calibration. This is why platform load cells are usually calibrated.
