In injection molding machines, asymmetric loads can cause the tie bars to absorb different forces.
When this occurs, tool life is reduced, which – especially in large systems – unnecessarily drives up production costs. The injection molding machine itself also suffers from such uneven loading, and there is a possibility of tie bar fracture.
The octogon measuring ring – specially developed for injection and die casting – can detect and measure these asymmetrical conditions during operation. This can be done continuously or by random sampling. The measuring ring is installed in just a few steps and connected to the measuring electronics. Measurement can begin, and you can immediately see if everything is in order with your machine.

If the machine is already running asymmetrically, a nascent tie bar crack could be the cause. A quick check of this possibility can save you from the worst. Simply mount the measuring ring near potential crack propagation sites and take measurements.
These areas are often located in the platen plates, meaning many cracks are not directly visible. By measuring different strains on the tie bars near the platen plates, a hidden crack can be diagnosed.
