A torque transducer was built from a shaft for a customer.

As in most cases, the starting point here was an existing product that needed to be retrofitted with a torque measurement for a test bench. In these cases, a non-binding, advisory discussion with the customer takes place at the beginning to clarify the possibilities and costs of the various options. A concept was then created based on the customer's requirements. After creating a concrete design, the corresponding drafts were simulated and improved. The customer receives a step file and drawings for manufacturing.

 

 

After the mechanical components - made of high-strength steel - were manufactured, the strain gauges (SGs) were applied, wired, balanced and pre-calibrated in our octogon laboratory. The careful work and experience in SG application are particularly important here. Subsequently, the measuring points were protectively covered and sealed.

After several quality controls, final assembly took place. After screwing together, the wiring, installation of the electronics, covering and shielding of the relevant components took place. The now fully functional sensor shaft was then calibrated. With a calibration protocol, it was well packaged and returned to the customer. 

Note on telemetry: In this case, an induction loop allowed the desired signal to be transferred from the component and at the same time enabled a power supply for the measurement electronics on the shaft. Inductive telemetry is suitable for almost any shaft diameter. The signal is picked up by a non-rotating power head next to the shaft or by an induction loop (stator) enclosing the shaft. Induction systems are durable, robust, reliable and deliver highly precise measurement results.
