Description
The TIMA is an infrared temperature sensor for non-contact measurement, manufacturer type Müller METS-IR.
It measures on moving, hot or delicate surfaces without touching the medium – where a protective tube would be in the way or cannot be installed at all. Housing, display and the two limit contacts are the same as on the screw-in sensors of the series.
The sensor evaluates infrared radiation in the spectral range 8 … 14 µm and covers -40 … +1000 °C, with a minimum span of 100 °C. The optical resolution is 15:1. Accuracy is ±1.5 °C or ±1.5 % – whichever is greater applies – repeatability ±0.75 °C or ±0.75 %, resolution 0.1 K. Emissivity and transmissivity are adjustable from 0.100 to 1.100 in software. The response time is 30 ms (t90) at 10 measurements per second.
The output is 4 … 20 mA with HART in 3-wire technology, current range 3.8 … 20.5 mA, with a fault signal at 3.6 mA (short circuit) and 21 mA (break). Added to that: a 4-digit 7-segment display in the head, which rotates through 330°, and two limit contacts, PNP or NPN, 30 VDC / 200 mA. Supply is 24 VDC ±10 % through an eight-pin M12×1 connector – the only connection on this product.
Mechanically: process connection from 1/4" to 1" as well as 1/4NPT to 1/2NPT, protective tube in 1.4571, Ø 6 × 0.5 mm, 100 mm neck tube optional, PBT GF30 housing, stainless steel measuring head, weight approx. 240 g, protection at least IP 65 with encapsulated boards. Vibration to IEC 68-2-6, shock to IEC 68-2-27.
Three things belong in the planning. The measuring spot grows with distance – 6.5 mm at the front edge, 16.6 mm at 200 mm, 76.5 mm at one metre; the target must be at least as large as the spot. The ambient temperature is not the medium temperature – the electronics in the head tolerate -20 … +80 °C, the measuring head -20 … +120 °C. And this product measures against the open atmosphere, system pressure 0 bar; it does not belong in a pressurised space, whereas the other sensors of the series withstand PN 25. After 10 minutes of warm-up the reading is dependable.
Programming requires the DEV-KMA configurator with the TrComm software. No CE marking is documented in the manufacturer's data sheet, no declaration of conformity is available, and one must be requested before placing the product on the market in the EU. No explosion protection is documented.
