Load Pins for Stage Technology
The rope forces in existing pulleys in a theater needed to be determined. This is necessary for safety reasons.

The most favorable and reliable solution was seen in the implementation using load pins. After clarification with the customer, the procedure was defined to replace existing steel pins without measurement function with load pins. In some applications, it is also possible to use an S-type load cell or a tension/compression load cell. Load pins with external measurement amplification were used here. Alternatively, there is also the option of an integrated solution. These load pins already have a voltage, current, or data output. In this variant, the measurement amplification takes place on the DIN rail in the control cabinet. This centralizes all electronics in one location. The pulleys are loaded with a maximum of 10 kN. The load pins were designed accordingly, with a safety factor of S = 3. |
Procedure

The customer provided us with the dimensions and the constructive design of the pulleys. This is particularly important to ensure that the bearing function is not impaired by geometric changes to the pins. Based on these specifications, new load pins were designed and coordinated with the customer again before manufacturing. The protection class in this case was determined as IP65, as pure dust tightness was sufficient. Our hermetically welded variant is certified with IP68. The cabling was fixed. A plug connector solution would also be possible. |

All in all, the load pin solution provided a very good, maintenance-free, and above all, cost-effective solution for our customer. The accuracy and resolution of such load pins are very high and significantly exceeded the customer's requirements in this case. |
Redundant Load Pins and Force Measuring Pins

There is an increasing demand for components required for mechanical engineering that comply with relevant safety standards. This applies in particular to standards based on EN 61508, such as EN 62061 and ISO 13849. Values such as SIL3 and PLe are quite common. OCTOGON's load pins can be used for these types of applications. Therefore, we have developed a suitable solution for these requirements – consisting of efficient documentation, reliability tests, and a practical architecture for safety-relevant applications. These load pins consist of two different strain gauge bridges and separate connection points. Such functions help reduce common cause failures. In the case of an mV/V bridge, information for the analysis and diagnosis of an error signal is provided. |
